I do not have GSA. I have many other problems and many might even say I am pretty messed up but that is ok. I do not really care anymore.
My question is why is one ok and the other not: in some countries cousins can marry and even more countries will over look it when it happens. I have known Priests that would marry cousins even though the country they were in said it was illegal and the country that the priest came from said it was OK. (All the parties were from the old country.) For the sake of an argument let’s say it is legal for cousins to marry. Cousins are sons and daughters of siblings who had the same parents. That makes each cousin shares 25% of the DNA of that original parent. If they have a child together that 25% the cousins share does not split again it stays the same at 25%.
Half brothers and sisters have one parent that is the same and one parent that is not. They have received 50% of there DNA from the common parent and the other half they have no relationship at all. Since both half brothers and sisters have received 50% of there DNA from one parent does not mean that they have the same 50 % DNA. If that parent was able to split his DNA into two pieces and give 1 half to his daughter and 1 half to his son their DNA would be 100% different because they have a different mother. It could go the other way also but never would it exceed 50% because they have one different parent. Meaning they may have 50% of there DNA from one Parent but statistically they only share 25% of the same DNA. If they have a child this 25% does not split it, will stay the same.
Mathematically they carry the same chances for genetic deformity as cousins do. Since the concern for intermarriage is because of genetic deformities then it should be OK for half sisters and half brothers to marry.
It has been stated that being married to people too close to the genetic pool may skip one generation but show up in the third. I don’t believe this to be mathematically true since the genetic make up is split once again with another party, the child’s husband. It has been my experience that most of my family has asthma at a very young age. I did not have it but my children do. My wife is not a relative of mine therefore this predisposition of having asthma just happened to pop up. That’s the way the ball bounces.
My personal opinion differs from what science and math statistics show: I feel that cousins should not get married and have children because they are too genetically close and if it were legal in my county and my son or daughter (they have different moms) told me they were going to marry, I would strongly encourage them not to. That also goes for cousins. Thank you. |

Thank you for you opinions. I'm sure there are many people who argree with you and many who are opposed.
But we can share views. I thought you may be interested in watching the TV presentation on GSA that was filmed last week to be shown on FEB 6th.
It will be ABC Primtime. It is shown at 9 pm here but you might want to check your TV guide to find out where you would get it. I don't know where you are as your information didn't state this fact.
I know it will be shown in the U.S. but not in the U.K. It will be titled Gentic Sexual Attraction.
I know they interviewed someone who has studied Cousin relationships, so you might find it interesting.

| I am in the US and I will be in the Dominican Republic getting a tan on the Feb 6. You did not say witch part people would disagree on I am assuming it is just the Cousin part. This is an opinion that I really do not feel very strong about. |
