View Full Version : Coming Soon GSA Survey

At last the time has come for more exploration on the subject of GSA!
Questions on this subject have gone too long without answers. There has been much attention drawn to this subject due to cases of GSA that have become public due to criminal charges for those acting upon their GSA feelings. And yet nobody so far had taken a real interest to research this topic and understand the drivers, the emotions, the effects, etc- the only research to date is the one we recently posted by Dr. Greenberg, but that is still based on a limited number of respondents.

Time to hear from the experts. Those who are part of the GSA website are the experts because we are, or have been, living with GSA. And on this website we probably have as good a group of people with experience as can be pulled together now! We are the ones who can most help each other by sharing our own, often lonely and incredibly painful experiences. By documenting them, not only will we create what I think many of you are shouting for; we will hopefully also help equip professionals to be better informed and better manage situations involving GSA.

Due to my own limitations on how to do a survey and hoping someone with that knowledge would come forward to accomplish such a project, it didn't come to fruition until now. Finally, after almost 30 years, someone who has the experience and skills to do this type of work has come forward and offered to help. We are working together to get this survey out to you (IT WILL BE TOTALLY ANONYMOUS AND INDIVIDUAL RESULTS WILL BE ABSOLUTELY CONFIDENTIAL- WE WILL ONLY REPORT BACK AGGREGATE RESPONSES), and want to ask for your opinions and help.

So could you please answer the following:

Would you be interested in seeing the results of a survey amongst us that looks at what happens, how, what we feel, what we have learned, etc?
Would you be willing to contribute by filling out the survey? (anonymous).
It should take c.30-40 minutes. Would you commit to investing that time?
We need about 5 volunteers to test it next week before we put it out on the website- please let me know if you would be interested ASAP. We will need your responses within a matter of days... Barbara

To the 5 who have responded positively to the GSA Survey announcement, I thank you. My hope is that there will be many more to follow once the announcement is read.

I feel this survey is a needed and important way to know what happens in GSA from not only the beginning feelings, but the yeas following.

Education is valuable for therapists, legal matters, and famililes on all sides of this issue.

This is for anyone who has been a recepient of the effects of GSA not only to learn but to tell what has happened as a result of GSA.

So can I please ask that as many of you as read this hit reply and just answer one of the following:

1. yes participate in survey, happy to do the pilot

2. yes participate in survey, but not volunteer for pilot

3. would prefer not to participate in survey but would love to see results

4. don't think doing a survey amongst site users is a good idea.

We make out of this site what we want to, so I want to hear from you whether you want this project to go ahead and will work with me to do so.

Thank you all,
Barb G

Hello Barb,
I will help with option one. What do you mean by pilot? This is only a survey right? Would you have it posted on the web site or would you email it to us or how would this work?

BarbGonyo

Reply to questions on Survey

Thank those of you who are responding to wanting to participate in the survey whether it is the pilot ( 5 people who would fill out the survey as a test to see how it works )

or if you want to fill out the survey after the pilot is completed.

We will post the Survey for a month June 1st to June 30th. When the time is completed we will tally the results and post them on the site so everyone will know the results.

Yes.........this is totally anonymous. No one will know who you are not even me. We are interested in the answers and your experiences not who you are.

Please continue to watch for more information or any changes on the Survery and check out the new questions asked to see what the general interst will be. It is helpful to know how everyone is responding to the survey.

Thank you again for your participation. I hope for a large response.

The more people that due the survey the more we will understand GSA.

For those of you who may be confused as to what is meant by a Pilot Survey. We first asked for 5 people who would be willing to do the survey as a Pilot or test survey to see how it went.

We later posted a few questions asking all who read the Forum if they would answer by number what their level of interest is in doing the pilot or just getting the results.

Of course the more people that particpate in the Survey when it is set up, the more valuable it will be for us to gather facts of what is happening to people with GSA.l

So I'm hoping there will be a big response.

Thank you all for your interest in this project as it is meant to have meaning to those who have GSA and those coming after us who need education on this subject.

No it isn't too late to get in on the survey and we hope as many people as possible will participate.

We hope to have it going June 1st. Watch the site to get information on this subject so that you can be part of it.

Thank you for wanting to be part of it.

To all interested in the Survey. There seems to be a change of time for the survey to be out. Please don't give up.....It is coming. First we will have to do the pilot and that will take a little time so our original dates of June 1st to the 30th was a little optimistic.

While waiting to get it all going, I hope that more of you will respond to wether or not you like the idea and want to participate or just want to read the results.

The more people that are comitted to do the survey, the more we can learn.

Sorry about the delay but it will be coming very soon. As I said before it takes a lot of work to get this going.

Thank you for your patience.

For all who read the Forum

I'm sorry that the Survey will not be up and running as soon as we planned. Our June 1st date was too optimistic

We need to do the Pilot or test survey with the 5 people first. We are also continuing to look for as many people as possible to be willing to commit to doing the survey.

Please be patient as it will be in the making and ready to go very soon, but not June 1st as we had hoped.

Don't give up .......It is on it' way.

Hello Speedo,

CAn you tell me more about where you are in all this? I need to know catagories such as where you are in the triad. If you have been reunited and had a problem with GSA.

We are looking to get 5 people first to do the test survey and I can't have them all in the same catagory such as all siblings etc.

I look forward to your reply and thank you.

I would be happy to answer any questions on GSA and to see them put in a structured way which allows analysis of the results. This would increase our knowledge and help us all to decide how best to help each case.

I apologize for the confusion about the Survey. Yes it will be out soon. There has been a need to try to do a sample or pilot one which for me takes some doing because the person who was so kind to put this thing together said it needs to be a sampling of different types. So I had to go through a lot of posts to find such people and it got to be too much so I sent her what I thought was enough to go and I'm waiting to hear as she is on vacation.

I'm so grateful for the survey as it took so much time effort and brilliant work from several people who are doing this without charge, so please be patient as we definetily want this done. Thanks so much for your interest in it.

I too am waiting to hear from the people who are wanting to do this survey. They have the test one and told me it takes a long time to go through it and revise anything that would make the real survey work easier for everyone to do.

So I hope everyone will be patient as they did tell me it would take quite awhile to get it to the point of running.

I'll let you all know when I hear anything. I'm really looking forward to having the survey help us understand GSA,I want you to know that the people doing this are not charging to do it and out of their own goodness and interest have put many hours into this and I'm really grateful to them all.

Count me in too, Barb. Anything to advance the understanding of GSA.

I also have some views on this phenomenon that are based on what seems to be an evolutionary hypothesis...that ALL animals, regardless of species, seek out mates that are the most similar to themselves, if you are interested.
