i was once in this kind of situation, but i was too young to understand what it meant, why my father was so protective of me. As i grew older I learnt to understand it. I have always wondered how long one must stay apart from their close relatives to be affected by GSA. I was apart from my father i believe 5 years from birth. I would like know how long others have been seperated.

I'm not ashamed of how I feel about my daughter, either, though I am very aware of how society views such things.

From all that I have studied it takes about 6 years of being close, part of which must be spent in the years after puberty, in order for the Westermarck effect to kick in. The Westermarck effect is an imprinting on one's psyche that normally turns off the effects of GSA.

My daughter and I had never met. Her mother thought she was pregnant by another man and ran back to him to marry, only to find later that he wasn't the father, and that she wasn't pregnent when she first thought she was. My name isn't even the name on her birth certificate. We met for the very first time this year, when she was in her early thirties.
