Victor, your offer to clean up the troll mess would certainly take the load off of John. I know John was a very busy admin once he was made aware of the spamming by Wamrage and a few others after the informative piece on BBC Channel 4 ( I believe ).
Perhaps there is an easy way to help out the admin that some of us who frequent GSA that could be published when we note serious irregularities. I am not that familiar with IP addies and how this Board works, but it appears that many of us could report specific threads that appear slanderous or offensive, eg take a look at http://www.geneticsexualattraction.c...read.php?t=821 There are two of the trolls "LittleDikDave" and "BEER-RUN" that undoubtedly are making posts that are not appropriate to this site. I hate to think of censorship, but that is the only way to clean up this garbage. It is embarrassing when a person new to GSA seeking serious advice needs to sort through the trash. |

Perhaps one way of dealing with trolls in the short term would be to use the " ignore list" facility.
Ignore lists are used for those people whose messages you wish not to read. By adding someone to your ignore list, those messages posted by these individuals will be hidden when you read a thread. I agree it is not an ideal solution, but i believe the less attention these people get the sooner they will get bored and move on to another unfortunate site. |

Spot on Jen.
Before I retired, I ran a seminar forum for my students and encouraged input from anyone who wanted to add information and join in the general discussions. After a short while, we were invaded by the sort of morons that are current disrupting this forum and our initial reaction to them was much the same as members have demonstrated here. After a short while a couple of things struck us. Firstly: they usually appeared and disappeared at the same time and secondly: the content and language of the postings were more or less identical. The other odd thing was the attempt to make them look different. Some were written entirely in capital letters, some had every word capitalised, others were all in capitals with the first letters in lowercase and so on . This led us to the conclusion that they were mostly coming from the same person going to silly lengths to disguise the fact. This explained why they all appeared and disappeared at the same time. We largely solved the problem by not showing any kind of response to them. The more you voice your concern, the more you feed their egos and encourage their activities. If they can make you change the way you operate your forum, they will have achieved real success and will then increase their activities to hack into the forum. If you analyse the postings here, you will find a similarities to our experienced. Their contrived banter is intended to goad members into a response, when they fail to get the desired response; they get bored and go away. When they experienced this lack of response a few times, they disappear permanently and go somewhere else. The best action to take is simply, ignore them!! |

Clean up the forum
Hi all,
Although I do not post often, I have gotten a lot of support this site. The recent trash talk is just that...trash. Could the administrators some how view comments before allowing them to post? I don't really want censorship, but some of the recent threads are from disturbed people who have no place on this site. Zenith |

Danielle - I don't think anyone blames you or Nick for what has been happening on the boards recently. It took alot of courage and strength of character to appear on the show and tell your side of the story. Don't forget there have also been alot of positive comments made since the show aired. Things will calm down here sooner or later, and if it has not already happened I hope you and Nick are left in peace and allowed to live your lives.
