I have now spoken in depth to my therapist about GSA. He did know about it but not as much as me! We have talked about what my options are 1 to break off all contact with hb ( i REALLY don't want this 2 Give in to the GSA feelings 3 Still have contact but be sensible & resist the GSA feelings - like meet in public places stop obsessive behaviour. Of course 3 makes the most sense & isn't as hard an option as 1 so it is what I am working at.
I found it tremendously liberating talking to him about it. Altho I speak to hb about it & to my husband (in less depth) it felt good to "get it off my chest" & his advice has helped me enormously
One thing I will say tho is I really searched round for my therapist & he was the 3rd one I almost interviewed them as I knew to talk about GSA issues I would have to find someone I felt completely at ease with & trusted & I do feel that strategy worked well!

For any of you who are looking for therapy help on this.... and if you want somebody who knows about GSA (a little because nobody seems to know much), try calling a big adoption agency in your country and ask them if they know of any GSA therapists. I know in London there are, pretty sure in the US and other places as well.

counseling

I think that if you find the right person, it could work. I have a psychology degree and I'm in the same boat as all of you. Maybe with my degree I could start helping people having been and still experiencing it first hand. I wish you luck and if you need someone to talk to let me know. I know I do!!!!

Brokenhearted - I think you should do exactly that... It would be such a precious gift to have someone to talk to who would not look at you with some sense of disgust.

I have been to counseling on and off for awhile. My therapist was very understanding and also said that this wasn't so isolated. Of couse, this site has confirmed this to me as well. We worked together through separate and then couples counseling and we are coming out stronger. We are really only working out normal things when you live together. We don't even think about the genetic connection except in jokes and when we have to decide what to say and to whom depending on their level of knowledge of our situation. Our goal is to only let those who know our relation in on our present relationship. All others are only met and introduced to us as the couple we are. Keep it all in perspective and remember that because you want this to be treated as a normal relationship, it also carries the same responsibilities. Falling in love is not an excuse to wrong a spouse or partner any more than infidelity if you fall in love with someone at work. there is no special excuse because of the genetic relation that doesn't exist normally.
