Counselling ?

Was wondering how many of you (if any) have sought counselling to help with your gsa issues ?

If so, what was the response / outcome ?

Thanks in advance.

I need to know too!

I have been wondering that for awhile now. I was in counseling for a year but couldn't bring myself to speak it out loud. I'm going back this week again, at this point it may spill out even if I'm not ready for it. The stress and strain are building like a vulcano. Eruption is inevitable, just a matter of when.

I tried counceling and for me it was completly useless. I was paying this councelor $125 a session and it seemed what he mostly cared about was getting paid. He wanted that check first thing before we started. Then it dawned on me that he got paid whether he helped me or not, and he didn't help me.

After a few sessions I quit and now I just look at free support websites like this and others where I can talk to people who know what they're talking about because they've been through it.

Maybe it's just me, but us adoptees have been through enough that we don't need to be expoited by these "professionals" so they can line thier pockets and learn from us what they're talking about so maybe they can write their case study book one day and be published. The therapist I was seeing wasen't adopted and had never experienced GSA, so was he really going to help me? Or was he just seeing where I fit into his textbook freudian beleifs so he can tell me I shouldn't act on it and should form a healthy relationship with my sister. Gee, like I've never heard that before.

If the guy really cared, he should donate a percentage of his fees to starting a foundation to reasearch what is really going on here where adoptees can get free help that we really need. Its the least society can do for us.

Thanks for your replies, gizmo and cap.

gizmo - good luck for later this week !

cap - they are pretty much my sentiments, too. Counselling is ridiculously expensive, and like you, I figure if they have no personal experience in the matter, what help are they REALLY going to be ?

I'm finding discussing things like this with others going through the same emotions / situations far more therapeutic than I think I'd find counselling.

Thanks for the input.

Councilling....

There is a type of Mind work called THOUGHT FIELD THERAPY..TFT....Its councilling where the Practitioner helps you identify the underlying thread in your relationship issues...

No the are not specialists in GSA,

but they can help you to understand the main issue that needs to be resolved in any relationship struggle that you encounter in your life...

This can be with a friend, or relative, anybody..

If you believe that people come into your life for a reason, as I do...

TFT can really help....

The practitioner delves into your past lives,
accessing the etheric plane, and allows you to observe what was the connection with this person in a that previous life, what you did not complete...and how to let go of or resolve the unfullfilled promises made to each other....

I found that My brother and I were indeed lovers in a Past life, and that we were taken from each other when He was murdered....( the circumstances long and complicated involved other people in our now family...and it rang true for me on a soul level...I recognised these people via personality traits they now have in this life,)

Sounds complicated but it is told in such a simple and amazingly accurate pesonal way that if it rings true for you..well..you just have an ahaaa !moment, and the gut churning dissappears...

My Brother had made a promise to me that he would always look after me in that life and always love me....

but he was not able to follow through due to his death.

He has carried the burden of that Promise into this life, and I the expectation of it.....and the complication that we have now manifest as Brother and sister puts us in a situation where we are inhibited to a degree...

Why we are now Brother and sister In this life was aalso explained perfectly by the practitioner.....it just made so much sense to me...She did not know my story, but in a Vision she gave me a scenario that was so personal and pertinant to the Circumstances of my relationship and my Life this time.....that I could not at all dismiss it......

Usually these people are not trained by Main stream Psycologists and are more open to non judgement because they see that there is a lot more to everything in this world than first meets the eye..

and they have usually been guided to do this work because they are Sensative and evolved entities....

There is a bit on TFT in google...and I truly reccommend this work to all here...Try it at least....Nothing to loose except the GUT CHURNING !!!

You will not loose the relationship with your re united one, you will instead have a set of emotional and Psychic tools to deal with it in a more peaceful way......

S, you can contact me via PM if you like , I can give you a Contact in our country.....

Counseling

I went for counseling today. After much crying and hesitation I was actually able to let it out. The response was wonderful. She admitted not knowing about the cituation but was very open and willing to listen and help me deal with the issues and at the same time wants my help to educate her on the subject so that she would be able to learn more about it to help others. It was good to tell someone after all these years of keeping the secret. I will go back. I hope others will share their experiences with couseling.

What great news to hear, gizmo I'll bet it's a relief to be able to tell someone face to face without hearing what I guess most of us would expect to hear as a retort.

counseling

Hi, I just thought i would share with you how my counselor reassured me I wasn't totally alone. He did not know of GSA, but assured me that bro's/sis's had fallen in love since biblical times, & that modern man had felt the need to create laws forbidding it so it obviously happened more than a few times over the years. He also reminded me no one can control who/when they fall in love. The chemical response is so elusive, no scientist has ever been able to duplicate it. If some one could bottle the chemical & sell it, they would be very wealthy. I hadn't thought of things just like that, so it made me think about when I fell in love with my husband. When we met for the 1st time, he was also meeting 2 of my friends, who although felt he was "cute" were not nearly as interested as me. The chemical/emotional response our meeting triggered would have been so interesting to document. The same with my bro. The reaction was much more intense. So the counselor has tried to help me stop focusing so much on WHy it happened, but letting go. (NOt that I listen or maybe something isn't working, b/c I can't seem to totally let go yet) Anyway, just thought you might be interested in that aspect, but you may have already thought of that.

counselling

I have only been in therapy for about a month & have been unable to bring up the subject yet as I wanted to establish a relationship with my therapist. I now feel relaxed & confident enough with him to bring up the GSA issue. After all a lot of our therapy is based around the marriage problems I 've been having so it is very relevant. I don't know whether he will have any knowledge on GSA but if not I'm sure after our session next week he will find out!

My daughter told her therapist about her feelings before our first meeting. His advise was to "tell her father" about those feelings. He was anticipating that as her "parent" I would react "fatherly" and tell her that such a thing was inappropriate. Needless to say she has since reported to him how "well" that advise worked.
