Well thats it then isnt it
Its now just a spam forum, i gave some people the link today, people LOOKING for advice on GSA, looking for a safe site, and all they saw was 300 (or it will be soon) posts of advertisements and a bunch of utter crap posted.
it started as the odd one but look at it now! what a load of shite. how can anyone take it seriously, its infested, does ANYONE on the board know how to lose these cretins or what? Time to make a new support forum me thinks, the more the better anyway, GSA on search engines just comes up with the same old sites over and over, its time google/yahoo came up with something thats not dated 2004 I'm looking into creating a site where new members get SCREENED. and administrators delete the parasites. it will be free to read, but not post until you become a member. it can be either point of view, any gsa relationship, but NO ABUSE will be allowed from either argument There is a need too for plenty of links, I have a massive list bookmarked of every site i ever found, its time to put it to good use My brother and i will be doing one, and dont forget Luvsbubby started a small one too. her idea of blogging about the relationship is something to toy with too. but as for here.. Its been nice, its been informative but its over isnt it? ....unless of course i want some porn/flooring/new pc/adaware/a bride from the phillipines/ rape fantasy/bigger boobs/ ten lords a leaping and a partridge in a pear tree |

the advertisements aren't even from real people, they are programmed robots that go around spamming every forum they can.
one way to prevent the robots from entering is to have a filter. know how sometimes when you sign up for an email, or account for some forums, they require u to type these letters that are shown in this strange looking picture? that helps filter robots because they won't recognize the letters that are in the pictures. i don't mean for this to be an advertisement, but invision free works great, and i never had a problem with robots, but my forum wasn't popular anyway so the robots might not have bothered. http://invisionfree.com/ plus, it allows people who don't want to register, out of embarassment, security, or anomity, (all three in my case) to participate in the discussions without registering. but before trying that out, there's still hope for this forum. delete the advertisements manually, or appoint someone else as a mod or admin and give him the power to delete threads. hopefully, he/she doesn't abuse this power and delete threads that are legitimate. |

Hi Leia,
I enjoy your posts and perspective (although I sometimes disagree). Barb is trying to get the spam off of this forum by asking the original sysadmin to do it. My understanding is that he/she's a volunteer -- I can't imagine he's a paid employee. I (and I assume many others) have offered our services, but I think she's waiting for him/her to do it out of respect for his/her ego. It's an extremely easy task, and I'm not sweating it. In the meantime, please reconsider creating another site. I, for one (I know that's a trite phrase, but it's the only one that works), want to hear all side, at all stages, and all outcomes. I'm not a fan of monopolies, but I would like to be able to come to one place and find that, rather than go to several different sites. Please keep in mind that this is a freely offered site, and that the current wave of spam is due to the recent availability of forum-spamming software that has affected all BBS's, not just this one. Cheers, Ruir

Hello folks,
I have embarked on a mass deleting of spam posts and banning of those offending users. I looked around the config area to see what I might have missed in the settings that might have caused this much trouble here. Turns out I forgot to turn on the user activation feature (ensures a proper working email to post here). That alone was probably the biggest issue because not turning it on allowed the bots to run wild in here with rediculous posts and threads. This has been corrected and I'll be monitoring the forums for the next few days, deleting and banning those that have already signed up before I fixed the problem. Regards, John |
