GSA Essay sent to MSP.
I am putting the essay I wrote and sent to the MSP on this site as an attachment. It is a very basic guide but with other information sources. Any comments would be useful so that I can improve this and get everything down properly to represent this as fully and honestly as possible. Any inaccuracy's please tell me so that I can get this right.
Thanks all Nick. |

Hi Nick
My name is Catherine Swain - my email address is [email protected]. I am a Social Worker - qualified in 1969 as a Child Care Officer so from this you can tell my age! I am completing my Diploma in Integrative Counselling by writing my dissertation. I have worked as a Birth Records Counsellor and an Intermediary for Leicestershire County Council Adoption Team and wish my contract in that post had not ended! As a result of my 'work' with adult members of the Adoption Triangle, I have chosen the title of my dissertation to be: Do adult members of the Adoption Triangle need counselling from a counsellor with knowledge/experience of adoption? As you are in Scotland, I would be very glad if you felt able to write me an email or telephone me on 07971 846925? I have a questionnaire which I have used for my 'research' which I would also like to email you if you would be willing to complete it for me. All replies will of course be kept confidential and anonymous as my contact with you would be. I am contacting you not as a Social Worker but as a Trainee Counsellor and would really value your input. The essay you wrote was really good. I wonder whether you have been in touch with Danielle who I note also lives in Scotland. For the purposes of my dissertation, I have had to limit the people I sent questionnaires to, to the UK. I have to complete my dissertation in the next 4 days so any reply you can send me immediately, would be great. I have only just found the website - typical that it is just when time is running out for me! I am hoping that my dissertation will show that there is a need for counsellors with knowledge/experience of adoption to counsel adult members of the Adoption Triad Best wishes Catherine I look forward to hearing from you. |

Hello Nick, I just found your essay and read it and want to thank you for sharing it with GSA readers.
It proves to me that when we are asked who are the experts, that it is indeed those who have experienced GSA. The importance isn't on who gave it this title, who has had a sexual experience, who hasn't. The importance should be on education on this subject so support so we can go into a reunion and be fully aware of what may happen to our emotions due to our overwhelming loss. I hope the documentary with you and your sister will go well. I too, will be part of this documentary. Barb Gonyo

Hi Nick
I’ve just discovered this site and read you and your sister’s postings. I wanted to write because you’re in Scotland, my mother was from the south side of Glasgow and I spent a lot of time there growing up. I am in a nightmare situation with my half brother, we just met last October and I can’t begin to tell you how I feel about him, but actually you of all people will understand!! Unfortunately he’s married and that adds to the problem. I can’t hide my feelings for him and I know he feels the same but he’s fighting it for the sake of his marriage and I think his sanity. I don’t want to fight it though, I just want to be with him. It’s just awful and has completely taken over my life. I saw that you intend to fight this in court, God I hope its soon then we could all live in peace, I mean we’re not doing anything wrong!!! I read your piece explaining GSA and thought it was brilliant, I really admire you and what you are doing. I hope you’re well, and coping as best you can. Thinking of you. Fiona PS. I sent a message to Danielle I hope that’s ok, us Scots must stick together!!! |

Thanks Nick
Thanks so much Nick for posting your essay.
Your paper shed some insight on an issue that I have been dealing with my whole life. The intensity of feelings for my h/b or anyone I'm attracted to is intensified by the fact that I am deathly afraid of losing them. Because of these overwhelming feelings are so scary, I pull back. This has really messed up my relationships. |
