Question Social Taboos

Looking through these threads, its interesting to see that while the genetic risks are noted, there does not seem to be much in the way of the social aspects of the condition mentioned. By this I refer to how society is structured, as in family should be this, that and the other. We as a group do not seem to take that into consideration when we pursue these relationships. I suppose it comes to personal choice whether we feel we should keep the relationship as we wish it or not. I would ask how this actually affects us socially? Yes obviously there are problems when people find out that it happens, my own mother has basically disowned me through this and that hurts a lot. At the end of the day its everones choice how to react to this and while people may not understand why it happens I think more tolerance of everything is required. Education will hopefully help towards this end, but people do not always want to be educated. Does it really matter whether the exact family values are not as they should if people understand why they are different? In this age we aim to get things right and keep things in a good order, but I do not believe in perfection as such, I never will I suspect. We have to be who we are and follow our hearts and if people do not tolerate this that is their choice, it does not mean they are right or indeed wrong, it is merely how they have chosen to live their lives. The problem I feel comes from those who believe they are right and everyone else is wrong. They try to change things to their ideas and while doing so cause immense damage and problems for all concerned. I do not believe in right and wrong per se, though obviously in cases where people are harmed I would say it is wrong because there is no need for it.

At the end of the day we are all human and must live out our lives the way we think is right as long as it does not bring harm to others. It begs the question though, are we doing harm to others because it causes distress due to lack of understanding? If we pursue this regardless, taking a view that people have to make their own choice does this cause harm where it could otjerwise be avoided? In essence are we being selfish and putting our own needs above all others, even those we care about?

I do not know the answers to the last questions because they are far bigger than any one of us but I pose them to this site to see what response I get.

Please forgive me if I offend anyone by saying any of the above. I am merely putting my thoughts down that we can analyse this.

Thank you for your time

Regards

Nick
