Forbidden Love ( Australian Story )
http://sixtyminutes.ninemsn.com.au/a...83&_cobr=optus
First of all, I just want it known that I have absolutely no experience with "GSA" nor do I want to, my sole reason for coming into this forum was to ask some genuine questions. I expect to be ignored, but hopefully someone will take the time out to answer some questions that I have. I will remain tactful and civil, I'm not a 'spammer' nor a troll. This is a genuine post. If you click on that link, you can read the transcript from that story and watch the interview. What wasn't mentioned in that interview, that the couples first biological child died from congenital heart defects ( a product of an incestuous relationship ). For those of you in a GSA relationship, why would you risk birth defects with your children. Also, do people afflicted by this condition suffer from mental illness? Thanks for taking the time to read my post! EbMum xx ![]() |

Hello EBMum and welcome
Before I attempt to answer your questions i would like to convey my appreciation to you for taking the time to investigate this phenomenon, instead of simply condemning it as many others have. You are actually the second poster in a matter of days who has visited this site purely in an bid to gain an understanding of gsa. While i cannot speak for the other members of this forum, i can testify that this lady received no animosity or ill will from any member of the group, a fact you will see for yourself if you have the time to explore this site in more detail. I for one welcome this sort of discussion as i view it as a step forward, perhaps an indication that society is beginning to consider the causes of gsa rather than simply unquestioningly accepting the typical tabloid reaction. I would also like to point out that each experience of gsa is unique depending on the individual concerned. For many of us the question of having children does not come into the equation. There are various reasons for that, my own probably sounds quite selfish. I have already missed out on almost 30 years with my father and i do not want that added complication. For others though i suspect it is not that simple. If you take the opportunity to delve deeper into this site you will discover evidence of the heartbreak, fear and apprehension the question can elicit. Further more I believe it is one of the most compelling reasons people have for not embarking on the gsa relationship. I suppose for those people its simply not worth the risk. The fear of the unknown is so strong and the desire to have children outweighs the pull of the gsa relationship. As i said each experience is unique. As for your question regarding the mental health of people living with gsa, i think i can confidently say no, we are not all suffering from a mental illness. GSA affects a whole range of people from all backgrounds and of all ages, it isnt an illness or a disorder. If you are interested in my opinion of what I believe it to be i wil give you the link to the post i made a few days ago addressing just that. I hope this helped to answer some of your questions, if not i am sure you will receive plenty of feed back from the other members of this forum. One more thing - after GSA has received any publicity this site has a tendancy to get hi-jacked. Its mostly kids looking for attention, but some of the posts can be a bit nasty. Don't let it put you off - the admin team is very good at sorting it out. Regards Jen http://www.geneticsexualattraction.c...p?t=845&page=2 it is post 18 and is a reply to a post of oneye. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1E1-congenit.html http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/c...rtdefects.html http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/dci/.../chd_what.html I have also included some links describing the causes and statistics concerning congenital heart defects which i thought you might find interesting. While I am not medically trained, it is my understanding that congenital heart defects are the most common type of birth defect, affecting 8 of every 1,000 newborns. Each year, more than 35,000 babies in the United States are born with congenital heart defects and in 85% to 90% of the cases there is no identifable cause. Granted, GSA couples do have an elevated risk of producing a child with birth defects (about a 2% to 14% risk increase depending on type of paring), but then so does a non-GSA couple who try to have a child in their 40s and 50s share an equal increased risk. To answer you last question, no one here suffers from mental illness. That's not why we have GSA. GSA is the result of being separated at birth from our siblings and parents and then meeting them as adults. Their absence from our lives caused us NOT to develop a psycological imprinting that comes from many years of familiarity that prevents sexual attraction to those we live with. As to the children of GSA couples... Let me put it this way, genius is a genetic birth defect, and GSA couples are more likely to produce a genius than those who are not a GSA couple. It's easy to look at that couple and blame their close relationship for their child's defects. But then we have a number of folks here who have had a child together that suffered no genetic defect whatsoever. Was GSA also responsible for their good health? Think about it. Homosexuality? Paedophilia? Depression (and GSA).
The idea of mental illness is a construction of modern society. It used to be that people with likely profound distortion of mental process (psychosis, mania) were considered mentally ill. But I do not agree with the current trend in labeling so many social issues as mental illnesses. "Gambling addiction" etc. These are all phenomena, they may or may not have positive and destructive effects within any given situation. Sure offer "assistance" to people who want to change behaviors or factors they consider undesirable. However I would not agree to label people with GSA defective. They are a phenomena, much like many other phenomenas of evolution and science. |

Gritty, I'm arguing that "Homosexuality? Paedophilia? Depression (and GSA)." should not be considered mental illnesses (Note: I do not consider paedophillia an illness but it is something I consider destructive and rightfully criminal)

Only Paedophilia and Depression are mental ilnesses. homosexuality is NOT a mental illness anymore than "genius" is a mental illness (it's not normal, so by your standards, genius is a mental ilness) or left-handedness. GSA is NOT an illness. I for one do not like using the label as most relational attractions are genetic. The only real difference is that people with GSA were separated from their relatives who they have GSA for, which caused them to fail to develop a form of psycological imprinting that comes from years of familiarity. It is familiarity that subdues the genetic sexual attraction that we would otheriwse have for our relatives.

Ok, I get that a reunion with a loved one, particulary a parent or sibling would be a huge deal, overwhelming, full of emotion and love etc. However what I find hard to digest is the fact that you would take that relationship to a sexual one.
I look at my own children that I have given birth to from the safety from my womb that I loved and cherished and PROTECTED, and I could NEVER upon my wildest dreams imagine having sex with them. I'm sorry, but if I ever had those feelings, I'd jump off a bridge or demand psychiatric care. ![]() It is familiarity that subdues the genetic sexual attraction that we would otheriwse have for our relatives. Quoting you Victor, so what about a Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Sister/Brother who indeed did grow up together who practiced an incestual relationship, is their relationship wrong? I just want some clarification here. |

I for one do not like using the label as most relational attractions are genetic.
Where's the scientif proof of this? Is there any proof? Also, I don't understand why comparing 'left handedness' as opposed to INCEST a relevant point. (Note: I do not consider paedophillia an illness but it is something I consider destructive and rightfully criminal) As for this pearler, well I really don't know where to begin with that. I just hope that if you are a parent, or become a parent, you are never affected by paedophilia. Believe me, it is an illness. No sane person would dare inflict the severe emotional, physical and psychological damage on a child that paedophilia causes. The children involved in paedophilia have NO voice or do not give consent. Please tell me you understand that concept and then re-consider if you think a willing participant who practices 'kiddy fiddling' is not ill. *insert vomit smiley here* |
